Last fall, after returning from a life-changing trip — I always find that stepping out of my usual environment forces me to reassess things — I made the bold decision to move our operations from Gastown, Vancouver, to White Rock, BC, the coastal town I now call home. It was a big leap, but it felt right, so I went for it.
I definitely underestimated the amount of sweat and tears that would go into this move. My husband deserves all the credit for renovating the store himself, working tirelessly on nights and weekends.
By March, we were finally able to open the doors to our first retail location, which also doubles as the place where all our orders are shipped from. It’s truly a little harly jae haven!
With this move came the growth of our team, and after a few hectic months of building this new version of harly jae, we finally found the time to pause and spend one beautiful, sunny morning photographing the space we’re so proud to work from — with our friend Rachael capturing it all.
I'm just as passionate about designing intentional, timeless garments as I am about creating a space that embodies calm and beauty. The biggest compliment I receive when people visit the store is hearing them describe that feeling of peace—a moment to take a deep breath and relax.
If you're ever in the area, we'd love for you to stop by. And if you're far away, I hope these images inspire you to create a space that brings you that same sense of calm, no matter how big or small the changes you need to make.
